Jennifer Watley Maxell

About Me

Affectionately known as Lady J or Rev. Jenn, I am a preacher, teacher, church co-founder, life coach, counselor, writer, wife and mother. Known for my interactive teaching and creative communication style, I have a unique ability to simplify the many complex issues facing our world today.  My gift of prophetic preaching provides both clarity and truth, motivating positive change in those that hear my words of encouragement and hope. I believe that ‘God has a vision for each of us that is bigger than any vision we can have for ourselves, or anyone else can have for us. Helping others discover and actualize that vision is my passion.

With the blessing of Bishop William P. DeVeaux, former Presiding Prelate of the Sixth Episcopal District of the AME Church, my husband, Rev. Charles A. Maxell, Jr.and I founded The Breakthrough Fellowship, located in Smyrna, GA.  From its humble beginnings as a bible study in our home The Breakthrough Fellowship has evolved into a congregation of over 200 members.  While God has greatly blessed our ministry and expanded our territory, our vision has remained simple: We are “All About God.  All About People”

As a vision driven woman of God, I am leaving my imprint on the face of women’s ministry through interactive experiences such as The Ellipsis Women’s Ministry, and “The Ellipsis Experience” Conference for Women and Teenage Girls, which seeks to help broken people find wholeness through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy from Howard University, and my Master of Divinity degree from Emory’s Candler School of Theology, where I earned Certificates in Black Church Studies and Religious Education and was selected to be a featured preacher in the historic Canon Chapel.

In May 2015, I was ordained an Itinerant Deacon in the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E) Church.

Born in Atlanta, GA and raised in New Jersey, I am the daughter of the Rev. Dr. William D. Watley, Senior Pastor of Saint Philip AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia and Mrs. Muriel Lewis Watley. Currently I reside in Smyrna, GA with my husband, Charles and my three children, Madison, Charles III, and Skylar.
